Hanzo-centric fic

Big Bear and Little Wolf

Hanzo centric fic, where Sojiro is not very involved in raising Hanzo. And one of the main guards assigned to Hanzo notices how lonely the kid is, so he starts talking to him and teaching him things. The years go by, and the guard and all the other members of the household are completely charmed by this serious yet goofy child. But out of all of them Hanzo is closest to the guard (Bear), there is a maid there that Bear eventually falls in love with and marries.

At one point the elders lock Hanzo in a dark place to take away his fear of the dark (the young master can't have irrational fears, he's in there for a few days. However, his age and the complete and utter isolation traumatize him deeply (this is also when he calls out his dragons). From a young age it was noticeable that Hanzo was a prodigy, so the Council also takes advantage of that. Bear and the others try to give Hanzo a good childhood, but it's extremely hard with the Elder's poison seeping into his young heart every day.

In all of this Sojiro isn't part of the big picture, except when he's teaching his eldest how to be 'Oyabun' and how to control the dragons. Genji weighs in a bit more heavily, Hanzo absolutely adores his younger brother; he simply has a hard time connecting with someone who is being raised so differently from him. Their mother died a year and a half after Genji was born (he was almost five), she had a hard childbirth and never quite recovered. However, Hanzo remembers her (she's the one who taught him strings, bow and shamisen) she is the one who said that he'd be a great big brother and that he should always look out for Genji.

Hanzo learns how to interact with people thanks to the members of the Shimada household, but there is always that sense of separation since Hanzo is going to be their boss one day. Not that they mind, Hanzo is a good kid (if not a little out of touch with 'regular' people and activities). And they see how he manages to win people over, if this was a kingdom then Hanzo was their much beloved prince.

Through all of this Bear (and the five other main guards) are always at his side, a tough and caring man who believes this child will do great things. He was always much more of a father than Sojiro, the Council eventually took note of how positive his (their) influence was on Hanzo. And so they decided to take measures to remove this circle of close family, which is what led to Hanzo cutting down his brother. Bear and the others were heartbroken when Hanzo disappeared, and he always kept track of the mysterious assassin/mercenary that used a bow and arrow.

Speed ahead a few years and a small town in Japan is in need of assistance, Overwatch answers the call ~ghostbusters plays in the distance~ when the job is done woman offers to make the agents dinner, which they agree to. When they go to her house and she properly sees the man with the sharp eyes and dragon tattoo she starts to cry. The agents are astounded when a choked noise escapes Hanzo's mouth.

They have a heartfelt reunion, and everyone is else is confused. When Hanzo explains that she used to work in the castle Genji finally recognizes her. She mentions how her husband is currently not home, but he'll be back in an hour or two (there's a twinkle in her eyes). Hanzo offers to help her make dinner. When the food is almost all gone, her husband arrives. His gruff voice echoes through the house, and Hanzo drops his chopsticks.

His heart steadily makes its way up his throat, and his eyes burn with tears. The others ask him if he's okay, but he just shakes his head. And then....then Bear sees him. He stands there, simply staring but then Hanae asks him, "Aren't you going to say hello to your boy?" This visibly shakes him out of his stupor, Bear crosses the floor in long strides, grabs Hanzo's shoulders, shakes his head softly, and then hugs him. He chuckles into Hanzo's neck, "I guess you found me instead, little wolf." Hanae laughs, "Not so little anymore, our little prince has grown up Kumakichi."

And so the night drags on talking about when Hanzo was young, the shock that the green cyborg was Genji, noticing how Hanzo and Jesse gravitated towards one another. Eventually Bear and Hanzo go outside, the house is on higher ground and the town doesn't create a lot of light pollution. The stars are clear and bright, Bear takes out a chair and his cigar and Hanzo follows (everyone else chuckles at the cigar and Jesse blushes). The others note how Bear settles down on the chair, how Hanzo waits for him to sit and then places himself next to the man's knees. Their outline is barely visible in the dark, but it carries a sense of peace.

Hanae's mouth curls up softly, she turns to her guests, "Best not to wait up for them, those two are capable of staying out all night." Her smile hardens as she says, "Hanzo isn't afraid of the dark." Genji nods, "My brother has never been afraid of the dark."

"Are you certain, young master?"

"You don't have to call me that, and yes. As long as I have known him Hanzo has never been afraid of the dark."

"Hmmm, I suppose you were too young to remember."

Here a drawling voice interrupts, "Hanzo once told me that the dark gave him his dragons." At this Hanae's serious expression melts away, "What a poetic way of putting it, and yes I suppose it's true. The dark gifted Hanzo many things, but Kumakichi taught him how to find the light."

This has gotten long and I still have to do my homework, and tomorrow I need to beg Mr. Bell to let me take the final early.
